Most Favored Patient issues statement on COINS Act Regulation Announcement
Washington, D.C. – October 22, 2026 – Most Favored Patient, an initiative of Unleash Prosperity Now, is deeply concerned by the Department of the Treasury's extension of the Comprehensive Outbound Investment National Security (COINS) Act.
"COINS is supposed to prevent US investment in Chinese military technology, and applying it to pharmaceutical investments is a terrible idea," Most Favored Patient co-chair Phil Kerpen said.
"American pharma companies regularly use investments with Chinese partners to assure American access to medicines and American control of key intellectual property. Cutting off those arrangements won’t stop breakthroughs from happening; rather, it will leave them entirely under the control of Chinese companies.
"To win the global race for new cures, the Trump administration should instead focus on the MFP agenda, including aggressive FDA reforms to make it easier and faster to develop medicines domestically, strong protection for intellectual property rights, and trade pressure to get other rich countries to pay their fair share for innovative American brand drugs."
